PASTOR JOHN L. SMITH

On September 2, 2012 The Historic Olivet Baptist Church of Chicago celebrated the first official Sunday with the Reverend John L. Smith as its shepherd and Pastor. No stranger to Olivet, - having first been appointed to be the OBC’s Youth Pastor in 1996 and eventually becoming the Senior Assistant Pastor to then shepherd, Michael A. Noble, in 2003 - Reverend Smith was warmly welcomed and received by the Olivet family upon his return.

He was officially installed as Olivet’s Pastor on January 27, 2013.  Reverend Smith believes that bible study is equally as important as Sunday worship service.  Guided by this principle he seeks to develop disciples that study, practice and devote themselves to the teachings of Jesus Christ.  His pastoral leadership prioritizes integrity, accountability and transparency as he brings to Olivet a vision and passion designed to rebuild, re-ignite and contribute to Olivet’s illustrious history.
